How I Got Moo Fever

My obsession, or so my husband calls it, yet sometimes he's more into it than I am, started on a small self sufficient farm in Conn. When I was about 8 years old, we had 3-4 cows. 100 or more chickens, a few pigs and my brother took care of the rabbits. That was his project. After getting up every morning at 5 AM and feeding / watering them all, going to school coming home and repeating the their care, to this day I still wonder why I have such a obsession for these animals or is it the Black and White Spots? Who Knows?
I also spent 5 years in the Future Farmers of America, at Killingly High School in Danielson, Conn. Instead of going to the nearby high school, my father thought would be best and beneficial to everyone, including myself to learn about what I was doing anyway with the care of our animals, the growing of our garden, etc.
My first sight of the Mary's Moo Moos figurines was in either Darmstat, or Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. I got 4 figurines. Little did I know what I was getting myself into. When my husband and I returned to the states a few month later, we saw these figurines in out local Hallmark store. One day after contacting Enesco for a stock list, that my husband inquired about, anda bunch more pieces, I made a decision that I wanted to have every piece that Mary Rhyner-Nadig ever came out with. By this time I had the real collectibles, all the stuffed moos, the tree topper, the branding iron, the bathroom/ kitchen pieces,( not to make anyone Jealous).
From then on it's been non stop. Needless to say I'm running out of room to display them all, but most are out of the cage so to speak. My husband often jokes to people, that he's just waiting for then to start doing their business.
Now about how I acquired the Cow Doll!!! It's a very special story to me. I saw this one day on eBay and a few days later showed it to my husband. I would love to have this I said. My obsession you know, I have to have it all. It was already up to over $160.00 . No way could we afford $200.00 at this time. The day of the auction I thought it was over, I couldn't find it, but it was still on eBay, I located it. Only today it was up to $400.00. My husband and I emailed the seller and asked her about it, but she couldn't tell us anything new.
You see, a year ago on May 28,1998 My brother, was 26 1/2 years of age, and had spent the last 8 years in the Navy, was coming home from a second job and was killed by a drunk driver who left him for dead. I would like to think that my brother and I were close. After things got back to as normal as they could be, m father shared some to  the funds from his death. That morning of he auction my husband suggested using some of that money to bid on the cow doll. I was very nervous, because it was a lot of money. As time grew close, I bid, I was outbid. I waited about 15 minutes and bid my final bid.
I was the high bidder. The tension grew, every 30 seconds I would recheck the auction, and when it got down to 30 seconds before it ended, oh well, the tears just started rolling down my face, for you see this was a special gift to me from my brother and from me to my brother. I know he would want me to have this. I have a memorial cabinet set up with his navy picture, his flag from the coffin, and also in this cabinet I have the cow doll which I named "Jake" after my brother.
Some would think I'm crazy, but it means so much to me. All of the Moos do because some of them bear the words my grandmother would call me "You're My Sweetie Pie". And now with the new Christmas series coming out the one that bears the title , "I saw Moomy Kissing Santa Claus", reminds me of my grandfather whom I lost a year ago.
So you see, My Moos are very special to me, and I wouldn't give

Linda's brother, Jake
